Chris Janson Talks Up ‘Power’ of New Single: The Ram Report

Breakout performer says “Power of Positive Drinkin'” is relatable to even those who don’t drink — himself included

With his new single “Power of Positive Drinkin’,” Chris Janson continues country music’s long tradition of booze anthems. But the Missouri singer-songwriter, who broke out in 2015 with his Number One hit “Buy Me a Boat,” doesn’t drink himself — he gave it up years ago when he met his wife.

While that may make “Power of Positive Drinkin’,” the second release off Janson’s debut album Buy Me a Boat,” a hard sell, he says the song has a more broad appeal. “I don’t write songs to sell ’em, I write songs to feel good. ‘Buy Me a Boat’ felt really good and that’s why I went with it. ‘Power of Positive Drinkin’,’ it felt good and that’s why I went with it,” says Janson, whose spirit of choice is Mountain Dew. “That’s my power of positive drinking. But I’ve written enough songs and sang enough songs and lived enough life that I live everything I sing. . . and drinking was a big part of my life in my earlier years.”

Janson will hit the road in February as support for Blake Shelton on his anticipated winter tour. And with a Number One in “Boat” in his arsenal, he anticipates lively, responsive and packed crowds at his own headlining shows. “The crowds are getting bigger, everybody sings it, everybody anticipates it. It’s what you look forward to as an artist, for your whole career,” Janson says. “To have a song that is not only a Number One but was as big as ‘Boat,’ and caught fire on its own, it’s rare to see an unfilled room now.”
