Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan Ring in 2016: The Ram Report
Country music is well-represented at New Year’s Eve celebrations from New York City to Nashville tonight.
Carrie Underwood headlines ABC’s annual telecast of Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve With Ryan Seacrest. The Storyteller superstar will perform a medley of her hits in New York’s Times Square, setting up the annual midnight ball drop. According to Billboard — spoiler alert — Underwood will sing “Smoke Break,” new single “Heartbeat” and her 2006 radio staple “Before He Cheats.” Luke Bryan is also set to perform, turning in his own medley that includes “That’s My Kind of Night.”
In Nashville, hometown rockers Kings of Leon, who are in the nascent stages of recording their seventh album, will headline the annual party in the honky-tonk district on Lower Broadway. But it’s Chris Stapleton and Kelsea Ballerini who represent country music, albeit on opposite ends of the spectrum. Both are set to perform on the Jack Daniel’s Stage — the Tennessee whiskey giant sponsors the “Bash on Broadway.”
Stapleton will hit the road on his winter tour immediately following his performance. He’s set to play a sold-out New Year’s Day show the next evening in Birmingham, Alabama.
