Brett Eldredge Swims With the Fishes

Watch video of the “Beat of the Music” singer shark diving to celebrate latest Number One hit

Brett Eldredge knows how to party. On July 17th — one month after “Beat of the Music” climbed to the top of the country charts, giving the country singer his second consecutive Number One hit — Eldredge celebrated by slipping into the warm waters off the coast of the Bahamas… and swimming with sharks.

“People celebrate Number Ones and gold singles in different ways,” he said afterward, still sitting on the boat that carried him away from the Nassau shoreline and into a popular feeding area for tiger sharks. “I just happen to be lucky enough to have some of my best friends in the world come out and celebrate with me in a big way.”

Eldredge, who cowrote “Beat of the Music” with Heather Morgan and Ross Copperman, organized the scuba diving stunt with help from Rock the Ocean, the water conservation non-profit behind events like the annual Tortuga Music Festival. While underwater, he took the time to pose with two plaques — one commemorating the single’s gold certification; the other celebrating its chart-topping status — as two wild sharks swam in the background. Perhaps unsurprisingly, his underwater acceptance of those awards is presumed to be the first of its kind.

The shark diving experience was reportedly the result of a bet that Eldredge waged several months ago, back when “Beat of the Music” was still climbing the charts. To mark his first Number One, “Don’t Ya,” Eldredge went sky-diving.

That means the stakes are especially high for his newest single, “Mean to Me”… although Eldredge remains tight-lipped on any possible celebrations for that song. Smart man.
