For the first 15 years of his career, Brad Paisley released albums at a rate of about once a year, but it’s been nearly three since he released his last album, Moonshine in the Trunk. So the West Virginia native’s announcement of the track listing and release date of his 11th studio album Love and War is overdue by his prolific standards.

The big news about the 16-song Love and War, due to be released on April 21st, is the album’s array of collaborators and guests – something that he’s been plugging since last May. Perhaps most interesting of all is the appearance of Johnny Cash, whose name is credited on the song “Gold All Over the Ground.” Based on an old poem written by Cash and published in the 2016 poetry collection Forever Words, Paisley supplied the music and melody to accompany Cash’s words.

Paisley previously touted Love and War‘s all-star guest spots, most notably Mick Jagger of the Rolling Stones, who co-wrote and appears on the song “Drive of Shame.” This isn’t the first time the two have shared a mic together, as Paisley joined the Stones onstage two years ago to sing “Dead Flowers” in Nashville.

Another Rock & Roll Hall of Famer, John Fogerty, appears on the title track, while Country Music Hall of Famer Bill Anderson joins Paisley on “Dying to See Her.” Paisley also previously mentioned his work with R&B and hip-hop producer Timbaland (Justin Timberlake), who co-wrote and appears on a pair of Love and War tracks. Paisley’s current hit single “Today” also appears, but his 2016 Demi Lovato collaboration “Without a Fight” is absent.

This weekend, Paisley heads overseas for the Country 2 Country Festival, where he’ll play shows in England, Scotland and Ireland.
