Make no mistake, the soapy storylines of ABC’s Nashville are great fun, but it’s the music that keeps many fans engaged long after the suds have subsided. With the series on break, having aired its midseason finale last week — an episode that boasted the long-awaited engagement of Deacon and Rayna — ABC is airing the latest in its Nashville: On the Record series in its time slot.
The hourlong show follows cast members like Charles Esten, Chris Carmack, Clare Bowen and Sam Palladio on tour, as they bring the music of the series to live audiences. They also perform songs of their own. Carmack, who plays Will Lexington and recently released an EP of original material, says he and his fellow actors take every chance afforded them to play music.
“Outside of the show, we have lots of opportunities to make music together. Sam and I get together all the time and jam and work on arrangements of each other’s songs. Chip and I get to play together a lot,” Carmack tells Rolling Stone Country. “We all provide harmonies for each other and play on each other’s music, and get backstage and rearrange songs on the spur of the moment. There’s a lot of that.”
Nashville: On the Record 3 airs Wednesday, December 16th, at 10:00 p.m. ET on ABC.
