What Alive People Do

Jamie Kilstein comes from a line of comedians who are as bent on making people think as making them laugh. A sober vegan with hard-left politics and an endless appetite for sarcasm, he reserves his most cutting commentary for liberals, and pantomimes misogyny with so much venom you might momentarily forget it's satire. His secret weapons, of course, are his own weaknesses: At one point, he jokes about wanting his wife to promise not to sleep with anyone after he dies, and follows a snarky, theatrical bit about atheism with a story about his dying grandfather confessing he’d never watched Kilstein perform because figured it would embarrass him — neuroses that turn comedy into therapy.
