Team Spirit

In a previous life, Ayad Al Adhamy played the gushy synths in Passion Pit. Now, with his punky garage-pop band Team Spirit, his slash-and-burn erudition comes through on every track of this utterly bazonkadonkulous five-song debut EP – a blur of bubble-punk riffs, bratty melodies, gutter-ninja guitar leads and cartoonishly catchy shout salvos. Call it trash idealism: Team Spirit nick choice bits from the Fall and U2 and Thin Lizzy like they're pulling off a five-finger discount at the local 7-Eleven. Which makes sense: The record lasts about as long as a cherry Slurpee buzz, while providing roughly half the nutritional value.
