Though best known for helping invent industrial music by clanging metal objects against each other three decades ago, these German dadaists have actually been incorporating coherent melody and rhythm since the mid-Eighties. Lately, they’ve drawn more on Kraut-rock drones of predecessors such as Can, while digitally releasing reams of their noise only to patrons who funded their work. This two-disc retrospective — littered with live performances and installation pieces — shows Neubauten as visceral and guttural as ever, yet embracing beauty and even humor. For old times’ sake, some tracks still credit “chaos pads,” “household appliances,” and vibrators as musical instruments.
