One Lung Hustle

Founded in Athens, Georgia, in 1986 by singer-writer-guitarists Daniel Hutchens and Eric Carter, Bloodkin are prolific, determined and strangely unknown. The whiskey-soaked Dixie-Stones ruckus in this five-CD box is all rare tunes and outtakes from a long haul that already includes 11 band-and-solo albums. But this isn’t leftovers. It is a deep account of Bloodkin's pursuit of a cutting Southern-life storytelling with an electric lingo also drawn from Neil Young and the Replacements. Early tapes suggest basement demos for Exile on Main Street. Later meat like "Paying What I Owe" evokes the album itself, while the dead reckoning in "God's Bar," at the end of the set, proves this tale is nowhere near over.
