When: June 11th-14th

Where: Manchester, Tennessee

Why Go: The country's largest summer festival features 125 bands and 20 comedians performing on 12 stages. This means a lineup that's both wide and deep: older stars like Billy Joel and Earth, Wind & Fire, plus thoroughly now names like Kendrick Lamar and Alabama Shakes. And with plenty of outliers like Flying Lotus and Tanya Tagaq mixing things up, the former jam-band Mecca celebrates the diversity of America's live-music potential on a site that's more anything-goes theme park than mere venue.

Must-See Acts: Kendrick Lamar, Billy Joel, Florence and the Machine, Robert Plant and the Sensational Space Shifters, Alabama Shakes, D'Angelo and the Vanguard, Flying Lotus, Gary Clark Jr., Slayer, Against Me!, Courtney Barnett, Rhiannon Giddens, Tove Lo, Who Is William Onyeabor?, this year's to-be-arranged Superjam
