Best Confession: Mac McCaughan

At the hugely entertaining "I Wrote That Song" panel discussion, Superchunk leader Mac McCaughan had a confession about the band's most enduring song, the 1989 post-punk quit-your-job anthem "Slack Motherfucker": "I have the demo for 'Slack Motherfucker,' and it sounds like a Tom Petty song." He was making a point about how a band inevitably puts its own stamp on any composition, but given how Petty recently snagged a slice of Sam Smith's "Stay with Me," it seemed like a dangerous admission. "Bring it on, Tom!" McCaughan said with a shrug.
