The first trailer for Captain America: Civil War has arrived, and as the title suggests, the action film boasts plenty of Avenger-on-Avenger violence. The battle lines are clearly drawn: It's Captain America, the Winter Soldier, Hawkeye, Falcon and Scarlet Witch battling it out against a superhero tandem that includes Iron Man, Black Widow, War Machine and, making his first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Chadwick Boseman's Black Panther.
The trailer opens with Captain America reuniting with his childhood friend the Winter Soldier, who was the villain in 2014's Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The preview also gives a quick rundown at the film's divisive plot: The government decides that the Avengers have been operating without any form of regulation for too long, so a governing body is put in place to police their actions. That, and the government's continued pursuit of the Winter Soldier, put the Avengers at odds.
The trailer hits its peak with a three-man brawl between Iron Man and the combo of Captain America and the Winter Soldier. "You know I wouldn't do this if I had any other choice, but he's my friend," Captain America tells Iron Man before their fight. "So was I," the metal-clad hero answers back. Another stark image from the trailer includes Iron Man kneeling next the body of a downed – and possibly deceased – War Machine.
Captain America: Civil War arrives in theatres May 6th.
