Samara Morgan, the eight-year-old tormenter from The Ring franchise, ditches the video cassette and goes viral in the frightening first trailer for Rings, the long-awaited third installment in the franchise.
The clip opens with a young woman named Julia (Matilda Lutz) receiving the infamous and horrifying video in an e-mail, launching a hellish seven-day slog towards certain death. But as Julia peels the skin off her palm and pulls hair from her throat, the Rings clip also offers a peek at the story of Samara, the young girl unleashing all that terror.
For those sequences, director F. Javier Gutierrez creates an eerie fairytale-like universe cast in a sickly green. Samara is seen giving an interview at an insane asylum and being pushed down a well, inevitably entering Julia's world by crawling out of her laptop screen.
Rings opens February 3rd and also stars Alex Roe, Johnny Galecki, Aimee Teegarden, Bonnie Morgan and Vincent D’Onofrio. The film follows 2005's The Ring Two and arrives 15 years after Gore Verbinski's The Ring, which was based on the 1998 Japanese movie, Ring.
