UPDATE: Lifetime has released an extended trailer for A Deadly Adoption. The dramatic, tense clip sees a love triangle forming between Will Ferrell, Kristen Wiig and Jessica Lowndes that leads to a potentially catastrophic ending.
Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig’s Lifetime movie debut A Deadly Adoption has now been teased with an action-packed, 20-second trailer.
The film, about a couple (Ferrell and Wiig) housing a pregnant woman (Jessica Lowndes) in an effort to adopt her baby, is described as a “high-stakes dramatic thriller” by the soapy network. “We could’ve had everything,” Lowndes’ character says in voiceover while attempting to run over Ferrell with her car. Wiig is seen with a bloodied face and a gun in hand. At the end of the teaser, Ferrell and Lowndes are sitting on a bench as he says, “You really are a strange girl,” with a laugh.
In April, Ferrell told Entertainment Weekly that the team behind A Deadly Adoption “would forego the project entirely” following a leak that spoiled news of the film. Just last week, however, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed the project’s air date (Saturday June 20th) following the placement of a huge billboard on Hollywood Boulevard.
Ferrell is “a huge fan of Lifetime movies” and had been hoping to make on of his for a while. He co-produced A Deadly Adoption with his frequent collaborator Adam Mckay. Though very few details have been unveiled, the team behind the film — including writer Adam Steele who co-created the TV mini-series spoof The Spoils of Babylon — are known best for their comedic chops and abilities to parody more dramatic fare. The film will be part of the network’s 25th anniversary celebration.
