Tom Cruise enters a world of “gods and monsters” in the explosive first trailer for Marvel’s The Mummy. Cruise and a small crew fly a sarcophagus before an ominous flock of birds blast through the front window causing the plane to crash. After Cruise wakes up and soon encounters the wrath of an ancient priestess, played by Sofia Boutella (Star Trek Beyond).
The trailer, which balances high-energy action with elements of horror, also shows Russell Crowe’s Dr. Jekyll, who warns that the princess “will claim what she has been denied.” The film, directed by Alex Kurtzman, also stars Annabelle Wallis (Peaky Blinders), Jake Johnson (Jurassic World) and Courtney B. Vance (American Crime Story: The People V. O.J. Simpson).
Sean Daniel, producer of Brendan Fraser-starring Mummy trilogy, produced the film alongside Kurtzman and Chris Morgan. The original The Mummy, directed by Karl Freund in 1932, starred horror legend Boris Karloff. Kurtzman recently told a group of journalists that the film, while created to stand alone, could also launch a universe of interconnected movies. The Mummy comes out June 9th.
