Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne explore a stunning universe and battle aliens in the gorgeous new trailer for Luc Besson’s upcoming intergalactic opus, Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets.
The two star as Valerian and Laureline, the titular characters of Pierre Christin’s comic series that Besson’s new film is based on. Soundtracked by the Beatles‘ ethereal “Because,” the teaser follows the pair through a gorgeously conceived universe as they encounter and fight a slew of strange creatures and monsters, while also figuring out the specifics of their relationship. “We get along just great – you flirt, I smile,” Laureline says right before the trailer cuts to a clip of her punching Valerian in the face.
Along with DeHaan and Delevingne, Valerian boasts an impressive cast that includes Clive Owen, John Goodman and Ethan Hawke, as well as two musicians: Herbie Hancock and Rihanna (who makes a brief appearance towards the end of the clip). For Besson, Valerian marks the filmmaker’s first movie since 2014’s Lucy.
Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets is scheduled to open on July 21st, 2017.
