Watch George Lucas, Jared Leto Ask J.J. Abrams ‘Star Wars’ Questions

“You tell me, man. You made all this shit up,” ‘The Force Awakens’ director tells Lucas about fate of Darth Vader’s grandchildren

Dozens of lingering questions remain following the arrival of the final Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer, so Vanity Fair had J.J. Abrams answer video inquiries from celebrities including Jared Leto, Lena Dunham, the Silicon Valley cast and Star Wars creator George Lucas. When the A New Hope director asked what happened to Darth Vader’s grandchildren – or the children of his offspring Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia – Abrams simply responded, “You tell me, man. You made all this shit up.”

While there’s much ado about the lack of Skywalker in The Force Awakens trailers, Netflix’s Ted Sarandos wanted to know the fate of another Star Wars character: The reviled prequel character Jar Jar Binks. “We are developing a Netflix series called ‘Binks and I,'” Abrams quipped. Jimmy Iovine then asks Abrams if he can see The Force Awakens early, with the director promising, “Yes Jimmy, I’ll show you the movie before it comes out. Five minutes before it comes out.”

However, many of the inquiries are unanswered questions from Lost, a series where even though Abrams directed the pilot, his involvement in the series has been mistakenly overstated. The director swipes past questions about the Smoke Monster and whether the passengers on the airplane really died, saying “Can we put [Lost co-creator] Damon [Lindelof]’s number right there?” at the bottom of the screen.
