‘The Tourist’: Most Laughable of the Golden Globe Noms

© 2010 by Columbia Pictures

I’m still laughing at yesterday’s Golden Globe nominations. The Tourist, an astoundingly lame thriller, is up for Best Movie — Comedy or Musical. Really? Really! OK, The Tourist is hilarious, but the laughs are ALL unintentional. And Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie getting acting nods for the suckfest performances of their respective careers. It’s it’s … delicious.

Peter Travers’ Best (and Worst) DVDs of 2010

I adore it when the Hollywood Foreign Press goes all bugfuck bananas with idiot choices for the Golden Dildo. They also selected the reviled Burlesque for a Best Movie nod. WTF? They couldn’t find anything funnier than these losers? They could have gone young (Easy A), vintage (Get Low), Brit (Made in Dagenham), indie (Cyrus, Please Give), fx (Scott Pilgrim vs the World) or just solid old-school comedy with an Andy Garcia cherry on top (City Island). Hey, name your own favorite 2010 comedy.

Peter Travers’ Holiday Movie Preview: Ten Movies for Escapism This Season

Why The Tourist? So Depp and Jolie (with Brad in tow) will pump the star wattage of their NBC awards show on January 16 and up the TV ratings. And Cher and Christina Aguilera can come with Burlesque. How do you not love that kind of shameless hypocrisy? If you’re looking for wiser heads to prevail or just some frontier justice, check out the SAG nominations tomorrow. The Screen Actors Guild choices are made by actors themselves, meaning the casts of True Grit, Get Low, Another Year and Inception shouldn’t be left in the lurch in favor of slumming stars doing paycheck movies. Here’s hoping.
