On the strength of a record-breaking Christmas, Star Wars: The Force Awakens barreled past $1 billion at the worldwide box office in historic fashion, needing just 12 days to achieve the feat. By comparison, Avatar needed 19 days to cross the $1 billion mark, while Jurassic World required 13 days this summer.

In its second weekend in multiplexes, The Force Awakens generated another $153.5 million worth of domestic ticket sales. When added to last weekend’s record haul as well as the worldwide box office, the film’s total revenue is approximately $1.1 billion, Variety reports.

On December 25th alone, The Force Awakens made Christmas history with $49.3 million at the box office, more than doubling the $24.6 million set by the previous Christmas day record holder, 2009’s Sherlock Holmes, The Hollywood Reporter writes.

According to Deadline, of The Force Awakens‘ billion-dollar bounty, $544 million came from the domestic box office and $546 million from international receipts; the film won’t open in China, the world’s second largest movie-going market, until January 9th.

The Force Awakens was the catalyst in what was a record-smashing Christmas weekend at the domestic box office as moviegoers combined for a $269.8 million. After Star Wars, the comedy Daddy’s Home led the charge with $38 million, followed by overperforming films like Joy, the Point Break remake, Concussion and, in its second weekend, Sisters.
