Hamill emerged halfway through an interview between Scott and Kristen Bell – who was filling in as guest host while Kimmel takes paternity leave – with a lightsaber in hand as the iconic Star Wars’ theme music blared in the background. “This really is one of the best moments of my life,” Scott declared.
The stunt took place on National Star Wars Day. Back when he was a Luke Skywalker-obsessed two-year-old, Scott remembered that he wrote a letter requesting Hamill’s presence at his birthday party. “I thought at least, if he got it, and he was able, if his schedule was clear, he was probably going to come,” Scott told Bell. “He didn’t show up. I remember not being crushed or anything – it was fine, I knew he must have been incredibly busy.”
“I’m sorry I missed your birthday,” Hamill told Scott after popping out of the woodwork on Jimmy Kimmel Live! “I was checking my diary, and that week I had two other birthdays, a bar mitzvah and a supermarket opening.”
Scott originally stopped by Kimmel to discuss his role on the show Big Little Lies.
