Gary Ross, who cowrote the script with Olivia Milch, will helm the film. As with the reboot franchise’s previous movies, Ocean’s Ocho will be a star-studded affair. Rihanna is among the stars to have signed on to the Warner Bros. movie, along with Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter, Mindy Kaling and rapper/actress Awkwafina, THR confirmed. There is still one spot remaining to round out the principal cast.
As Deadline reports, Steven Soderbergh, who helmed 2001’s Ocean’s Eleven remake and sequels Ocean’s Twelve and Ocean’s Thirteen, will produce Ocean’s Ocho. The film is slated to begin production this October in New York.
Ocean’s Ocho‘s cast announcement follows on the heels of this summer’s all-female reboot of Ghostbusters, which caused a stir amid fans of the original male version.
Rihanna has more acting projects planned in the coming months. The singer, who is currently on a world tour in support of her eighth album Anti, is also set to portray Marion Crane during A&E’s Bates Motel fifth and final season next year and she will also be the subject of a forthcoming Peter Berg documentary.
Kendrick Lamar, Rihanna and Metallica will headline this year’s Global Citizen Festival at New York’s Central Park. Watch here.
