The Terminator franchise is getting a reboot by Paramount, which is planning a new trilogy of films starting in 2015, The Associated Press reports. The first film is due in June 2015, though there’s no word whether Arnold Schwarzenegger will return.
Schwarzenegger played a malevolent time-hopping robotic assassin in the first film, and returned as a protector in the second. The original and its sequels, 1991’s Terminator 2: Judgment Day and 2003’s Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, went on to earn more than $1 billion worldwide. Schwarzenegger made a brief appearance in a fourth film, Terminator Salvation, in 2009 when he was governor of California.
Laeta Kalorgridis (Avatar) and Patrick Lussier (Drive Angry) will write the screenplay for the movie, the fifth in the Terminator franchise. Annapurna Pictures, which was also behind Zero Dark Thirty, will produce.
