In February, Hastings told the company’s investors that “it is really a fantastic one-off, which is coming together incredibly. I think it will be amazing for us, but think of it as a nonrepeatable amazing.” But he’s since changed his tune following Sunday’s fourth season unveiling of the cult comedy, which Fox canceled in 2006.
“Arrested is unique, because [whether or not it comes back is] really up to the talent,” Hastings said during a CNBC interview on Wednesday. “If the talent were willing to do more, and interested in that, I’m sure we would be willing.”
Hastings wouldn’t reveal Netflix’s viewer data for the show’s return, saying the company preferred to look at the ratings over the course of a year, not “day one.” However, network-monitoring company Procera reported that 36 percent of one service provider’s users watched at least part of Arrested Development‘s return, while one in 10 viewers have already streamed the entire 15-episode season.
