NBC will now air The Voice twice a season. For the 2012-2013 season, the singing competition will be broadcast starting with a fall Monday slot. Fox plans on airing X Factor, with recently confirmed judge Britney Spears, this fall as well.

Despite the overlap between the two shows, NBC entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt expressed confidence with the decision. “We just try to close our ears to what is going on out there and just focus on our own show. Everyone said we couldn’t possibly launch The Voice in the wake of American Idol,” he said. “There was never any doubt that we were going to do two cycles a year eventually after we got our sea legs.”

Greenblatt also admitted The Voice will see some minor changes, particularly around integrating the judges’ big red revolving chairs. “We know people love the revolving chairs, and so we have a plan to get them into the battle rounds,” he said. “There are also changes and tweaks in the format that will make it even better and more competitive.”

Last week, former Alicia Keys backup singer Jermaine Paul won season two of The Voice.
