“Ghostbusters is every fun thing you can think of when it comes to the imagination when you think of supernatural or paranormal activity,” Nas says in a promotional video for the collaboration. “What kid doesn’t get inspired or intrigued by ghost stories?”
The rapper goes on to reflect on his own relationship with the iconic film, telling the story of the first time he saw it with his mom and brother. “We were just happy to go get out to the movie theater,” he says of the experience. At that time, Nas was already a huge fan of Dan Aykroyd and Bill Murray because of Saturday Night Live. “It just took us on a ride.” The rapper has yet to announce a release date for the clothes.
These days, Nas sees himself primarily as a businessman. He’s inspired by the way Diddy has expanded his Sean John clothing line from just “a T-shirt and a baseball cap.” His other business ventures include Mass Appeal Media Group, Hennessy’s “Wild Rabbit” campaign, soul food restaurant Sweet Chick and several start-ups.
A remake of the 1984 supernatural comedy will be released this July. Paul Feig co-wrote and directed the all-female reboot, which stars Leslie Jones, Kate McKinnon, Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig. Original castmembers Aykroyd, Murray and Ernie Hudson will make cameos; fourth ghostbuster Harold Ramis died in 2014.
Nas released his most recent album, Life Is Good, in 2012. He has made numerous guest appearances on songs, including a spot on Justin Bieber’s Purpose and a devastating collaboration with Usher titled “Chains.”
