Mike McCready Anchors ‘Alive’ With Dierks Bentley, the Roots

Pearl Jam Week continues on ‘Late Night With Jimmy Fallon’

Dierks Bentley picked one of Pearl Jam‘s highest-profile songs for his contribution to a week celebrating the band’s music on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon. Bonus: he got to perform it with help from Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready, backed by a selection of the Roots.

Captain Kirk Douglas tore into the massive riff that drives the song, and McCready locked into the rhythm part with Bentley, who strummed an acoustic guitar while he sang in a credible approximation of Eddie Vedder’s world-weary vocals on the song from Pearl Jam’s 1991 debut, Ten.

Pearl Jam’s new album, Lightning Bolt, is the reason for Fallon’s devotion this week. Chris Cornell and the Avett Brothers kicked off Pearl Jam Week Monday with “Footsteps,” and Fleet Foxes singer Robin Pecknold Tuesday turned in a version of “Corduroy.” Pearl Jam performs tonight and Friday on the show.

Bentley, a country star who broke out in 2003 with the single “What Was I Thinkin’,” released his most recent album, Home, in 2012. Fallon said the singer is at work on the follow-up, which will be out early next year.
