Louis C.K. Reveals His True Identity in ‘SNL’ Promos

The comedy great will host this Saturday’s show, also featuring U.K. singer Sam Smith

If you’re a fan of Louis C.K.’s depressing-yet-life-affirming brand of comedy, you know that he essentially plays an enhanced version of himself on Louie, his acclaimed FX series. Or at least that’s what he wanted us to believe: In a new promo round-up for his hosting gig on this weekend’s SNL, C.K. unmasks his true identity as a gun-toting, “yeehaw”ing Bayou gent.

As C.K. is going through the motions of the promo game, cast member Kenan Thompson interrupts, saying, “That’s awesome – I love that character!” At first, C.K. tries to hide from the truth, but eventually both he and Thompson drop their fake accents and share a genuine moment. Elsewhere, Thompson asks what the C.K. actually stands for (and whispers his guess at the acronym – which seems to involve some kind of sexual position based on C.K.’s shocked reaction), and the two comedians decide to wander off and smoke some pot offscreen.

This weekend’s stint on the sketch series, featuring musical guest Sam Smith, will be C.K.’s second hosting gig after his 2012 debut.

C.K. will also slip back into his Louie persona when the series returns to FX this May. Season Four will feature 14 new episodes, beginning on Monday, May 5th. C.K. (who writes, directs, edits and stars in the series) had previously placed Louie on hiatus after the end of Season Three.

“Louis said he needed extra time between seasons three and four of his show because – even though Louie was the most critically acclaimed television comedy series in America – he needed to make it even better,” FX CEO John Landgraf told The Hollywood Reporter. “Based on the first three episodes we’ve seen, remarkably, he accomplished his goal.”
