True Blood is currently in the midst of its fifth season, which will be its last with showrunner and creator Alan Ball at the helm. In February, HBO announced that while Ball would remain involved in the series as an executive producer, by stepping down he would have more time to develop new programs for HBO and Cinemax.
“Because of the fantastic cast, writers, producers and crew, with whom I have been lucky enough to work these past five years, I know I could step back and the show will continue to thrive as I look forward to new and exciting ventures,” said Ball in a statement at the time.
The Newsroom is currently just a handful of episodes into its first season, and though it received mixed reviews from critics, it has been among HBO’s top programs since it premiered on June 23rd. The drama stars Jeff Daniels as a jaded cable news anchor who attempts to change things with his producer/ex-girlfriend (Emily Mortimer) following a “mad as hell and I’m not gonna take it”-like moment.
HBO did not release any information involving possible air dates or changes for the new seasons of The Newsroom or True Blood.
