Swiss Army Man became an instant sensation at the Sundance Film Festival thanks to the film’s offbeat dark humor, and the new red band trailer hints at some of the breakout gross-out movie’s more infamous sequences, from Daniel Radcliffe’s farting corpse to the dead man’s compass-like erection. “I think your wang is guiding us home. It’s magic,” Paul Dano’s character tells his deceased buddy.
The film’s plot boils down to a broken man living in the wilderness (Dano) and his unnatural, possibly imagined interactions with the Harry Potter star’s semi-reanimated dead body. The new trailer also delves into the meaning of the film’s title as Dano uses Radcliffe’s body for a variety of wilderness skills, like using his teeth to cut rope and his corpse as a makeshift raft. The film opens June 24th.
Swiss Army Man was written and directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, the production duo known as “the Daniels” that was responsible for DJ Snake and Lil Jon’s similarly erection-driven music video for “Turn Down for What.” As the Daniels explained to Rolling Stone after their film wowed the Sundance audience, the basic concept for the movie was borne out of a 17-word sentence: “We need to make a movie about a man who rides a farting corpse across the ocean.”
