Exclusive: Iggy and The Stooges ‘Search and Destroy’ Live At ATP

Iggy and The Stooges were absolutely on fire by the time their 2010 summer tour hit the All Tomorrow’s Parties Festival in Monticello, New York. “It was near the end of our tour and tension always builds up by that point,” says Iggy Pop. “You always start to feel like you’re a dirty windshield on a long highway with lots of bugs – but you begin to play really, really edgy and really well.” The show was filmed for the DVD Raw Power: Live In The Hands of Fans, which hits DVD and Blu-ray on September 27th. Check out an exclusive preview of “Search and Destroy” here.

The show was filmed by six fans with handheld cameras in the audience. “I don’t allow regular camera crews at our shows,” says Iggy. “The way we did it here wasn’t intrusive at all. It was kind of fun. But when it gets up to like two guys who are in the union and they could be on the set of a Brady Bunch remake or something and they’re sitting on these camera track, dolly driven, electronic behemoths, going back and forth in front of the stage while you’re working, then that really sucks.”

Iggy also loved the laid-back vibe of the festival. “The best part of it was that, for me, it was a two and a half foot stage with no security barrier,” he says. “That’s how I started, and that’s how I still like it. That has become more and more of a rare event. Shows now have camera tracks and a stage below the stage and a pit for the Doberman Pinschers.”
