Eminem and Rihanna will perform their hit “The Monster” for the first time on television on the MTV Movie Awards this Sunday, April 13th. The artists previously performed their song “Love the Way You Lie” at the MTV Video Music Awards in 2010 and at the Grammys the following year.
Since its release as a single, “The Monster” claimed the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100, R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Mainstream Top 40 charts. Now the pair is embarking on the “Monster Tour,” which will find the rapper and pop singer appearing together at gigs in Los Angeles, New York City and Detroit on various dates in August.
The duo had worked together on “Love the Way You Lie” for Eminem’s 2010 album Recovery, but Eminem made clear when he was prepping the release of The Marshall Mathers LP 2 that this was not a bid to create Em and Rih, Part Deux. He told Rolling Stone the duet was “not necessarily a sequel, as much as it is a revisitation” to his previous works. “To me, it’s more about the vice, and it’s more about the nostalgia,” he said.
In other Eminem news, the rapper revealed recently that he was working in Detroit with director Spike Lee on the video for the MMLP2 track “Headlights.” In the song, Eminem apologizes to his mother about pushing her away from him. Fun. frontman Nate Ruess sings its chorus.
