Grumpy Cat, nee Tardar Sauce – the Internet’s favorite genetic mutant – will receive her own Lifetime Original Movie, a live-action Christmas special to air this November. Titled Grumpy Cat’s Worst Christmas Ever, the eponymous curmudgeonly feline will be voiced by her human equivalent (in character, at least): actress Aubrey Plaza.
The movie’s premise sees Grumpy Cat playing a lonesome mall pet shop resident who never gets adopted because of her notoriously sourpuss face. When a 12-year-old named Chrystal realizes that she can hear Grumpy’s voice, a series of quirky misadventures take place through which they may or may not learn the true meaning of Christmas.
Tardar Sauce has been a busy cat lately. The two-year old released her first album this past summer alongside fellow celebrity felines Oskar the Blind Cat and Hamilton the Hipster Cat, wrote the book The Grumpy Guide to Life: Observations by Grumpy Cat which is now in print in 14 languages, and even made time to visit the Rolling Stone offices to help promote our Lana Del Rey cover. She’s currently the spokescat for Friskies, teaming up with the company to support Rescue Bank, a nonprofit that donates pet food to rescue shelters.
Plaza recently starred in the indie flick Life After Beth as a dead girl who comes back as an ill-mannered zombie to wreak havoc on her ex-boyfriend’s life. Next up, she’ll reprise her role as beloved bitchy-resting-face-sufferer April Ludgate on Parks and Recreation’s final season, premiering September 24th on NBC.
Grumpy Cat’s Worst Christmas Ever airs November 29th at 8pm EST on Lifetime.
