The duo began with the organ-laced “Fever,” the hypnotically driving first single off the album. For the second act, the Keys went hard and heavy with “Bullet In the Brain,” which they debuted barely a week ago in a live session on BBC Radio 1.
The Black Keys recorded Turn Blue over the past year in L.A., Michigan and Nashville, with help from Brian “Danger Mouse” Burton. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, frontman Dan Auerbach said that they had some initial trouble finding their groove for the new project, until the sprawling “Weight of Love” freed them from the notion of writing singles. “After that, it was like, ‘We can do whatever we want – it’ll be all right,'” he said.
Turn Blue hits shelves on May 13th. The Black Keys play Late Night With David Letterman the night before that and will be ending the week with an headlining appearance at the Hangout Music Festival in Gulf Shores, Alabama on May 16th.
