At the Movies With Peter Travers: “Cop Out” Plus Answers to Your Oscars Questions

In this week’s *At the Movies*, to pay homage to director Kevin Smith’s “too fat to fly” controversy, Rolling Stone movie critic Peter Travers is feeling too fat to review movies. You really need to click the video above to see for yourself. He does manage to fight through the obesity to review one film, Smith’s new buddy flick Cop Out, starring Bruce Willis and 30 Rock funnyman Tracy Morgan — who’s profiled in our new issue — as a pair of mismatched cops forced to partner up. While Travers raves about Smith’s Clerks and Chasing Amy, not much hilarity ensues in Cop Out as Smith takes a rare job directing, but not writing the script. Thanks to a handful of funny moments this movie manages to escape the Scum Bucket, and while Cop Out could be a worthwhile Netflix choice, it’s not something to run out and see on opening night.

With the Academy Awards rapidly approaching, Travers also fields all your Oscar questions: Does Inglourious Basterds stand a chance in the Best Picture category? Why was Leonardo DiCaprio’s award-worthy turn in Shutter Island pushed from Oscar season to the doldrums of February? Who was the worst Oscars host? The worst Best Picture winner in Academy history? Travers answers all this and much more in the video above.
