Animal Collective’s “ODDSAC” Debuts at Sundance

Animal Collective’s “visual album” ODDSAC premiered yesterday at the Sundance Film Festival (Rolling Stone movie critic Peter Travers is keeping up with the fest’s action on his Twitter). Knowing that the vast majority of their fans probably couldn’t make it to Park City, Utah, for the screening, the Merriweather Post Pavilion band also unveiled the ODDSAC trailer on the film’s official Website.

The film’s preview demonstrates AC are definitely putting the “odd” in ODDSAC, but what else would you expect from the band that gave us the “Brother Sport” video? The 30-second clip is a flurry of colors, strange imagery, Stan Brakhage-like rapid-fire visuals and a bald guy running through the forest with smoke billowing out of his head. In short, it’s not Avatar, but we’re sure when combined with the music of Animal Collective it’ll boil down to a mesmerizing and unique cinematic experience.

The band and director Danny Perez were on hand yesterday for ODDSAC‘s premiere, and three more screenings have been planned over the course of Sundance. After that, according to the ODDSAC site, the film will screen for one night only in New York City on March 2nd and Chicago on March 17th. Perez and members of AC will attend both screenings.
