'Storefront Hitchcock' (1998)

A man, his guitar, a plate-glass window – Demme did not need much to make a completely compelling music-performance movie. Of course, it helped that he had Robyn Hitchcock, a singer and singwriter with a facility for killer hooks and cracked lyrics about devils' radios and filthy birds, on hand to help out. The concept was simple: Get the ex-Soft Boys frontman to perform in a storefront window. That's it. The result, however, is damn near transcendental. DF
