Endless Space 2
Steam’s continued dominance has been a boon for a number of PC genres that had been flagging in popularity, 4X strategy games amongst them. With the renewed flood of 4X games currently pouring into Valve’s distribution platform, distinguishing your game in a crowded market is an uphill challenge, but one that Endless Space 2 manages with panache.
Developers Amplitude Studios have a strong track record in the 4X space, and their latest offering continues to pad their pedigree. A sprawling game of empire, diplomacy, and war set amongst the glittering stars of a vast galaxy, Endless Space 2 stands head and shoulders above its competitors with its sharp AI, deep but intuitive management systems, and surprising narrative depth for a genre that, when it considers story at all, does so in a cursory and dismissive way. Endless Space 2 makes players feel less like a disembodied bureaucrat and more like a fully engaged ruler than any 4X game that’s come before it, and that immersion matched with an intelligently designed interface and engrossing gameplay make it a can’t-miss title for strategy fans.
