'Splatoon 2' Gets New Starter Edition and Two New Amiibo

New version hits March 16 and includes free stickers, guide

Splatoon 2 gets a "starter edition" On March 16 and new amiibo figures for its two most popular characters later this year, Nintendo announced Monday morning.

Splatoon 2 Starter Edition includes a copy of the game, a 100-page Splatoon 2 strategy guide and two sheets of Splatoon stickers for $59.99. That's the same price as the game used to sell for on its own.

Nintendo says that it's two new amiibo from the game are designed after Pearl and Marina, two characters from Splatoon 2. The two are from the in-game group Off the Hook and also are the broadcasters during Inkopolis News and Splatfest events. The two figures launch in stores as a two-pack later this year.

Splatoon 2, Nintendo's unique take on the competitive shooter, launched last summer and has sold more than 4.9 million copies worldwide, Nintendo says. The game has players battling to paint the largest percentage of the map while avoiding getting blasted out of existence by enemies paint guns, paint rollers and the like. Nintendo has put a lot of effort into post-game launch support, rolling out new battle modes, Splatfest competitions, new gear, weapons and stages since its release.
