We got a brief glimpse of Beyond Good & Evil 2 during E3 last week, and there was the spectacular cinematic demo that the studio showed during the Ubisoft showcase – but now the company has put out a 14-minute video of creative director Michel Ancel playing a very early tech demo.
Beyond Good and Evil 2 is billed by Ubisoft as the spiritual successor to the 2003 original, and will be both a single player and co-op multiplayer experience set in System 3, "the center of interstellar trade and colonization in the Milky Way of the 24th century, thanks to the creation of Hybrid slaves." The studio describes the new title – which currently has no scheduled release date – as "a prequel that will transport players into a multicultural world, capturing the spirit of the original with grandiose decors and intense dramas that play out across a vast universe."
Though the demo is very early, it shows some impressive transitions from the planet's surface up into space and back again. That said, there's not much evidence of an actual game yet – at best this video is a statement of intent from Angel and Ubisoft.
During E3 you may have heard of the "Space Monkey Program", which is the way that Ubisoft Montpellier is positioning the way that it intends to develop the game alongside its community of fans. Essentially a beta program with an intense focus on player feedback, you can sign up to participate here.
