Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy (2004)

Released by Midway for PS2, Xbox and PC in 2004, Psi-Ops was a phenomenal early demonstration of the gameplay possibilities opened up by a more realistic physics system. Making use of the nascent Havok 2.0 physics engine – a piece of tech that has gone on to power the way things move around in hundreds of games since – Psi-Ops was a third person action game about an operative with powerful psychic powers. A precursor to just about everything that lets you move things with force powers or gravity guns (Psi-Ops released five months ahead of Half-Life 2) the game pioneered the use of levitating objects that have been seen in dozens of games since, from Starkiller's force abilities in Star Wars: The Force Unleashed to the magnesis rune ability in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
