Chinese tech giant Tencent invests in ‘Elite Dangerous’ studio
Tencent is adding another video game studio to its impressive portfolio. The Chinese tech giant already owns Clash of Clans maker Supercell, League of Legends dev Riot Games, and a portion of Unreal game engine creator Epic Games. Now, it’s investing in U.K.-based developer Frontier. Frontier is perhaps best known for its space sim Elite Dangerous. Tencent recently bought nine percent of the studio for around $23 million USD. Frontier says the investment will "accelerate and improve Frontier's access to the growing and already very significant Chinese market."
