Man Accused of Mass Twitch Channel Spam Charged in Canada
A Canadian man faces charges after he allegedly spammed thousands of Twitch channels with racist and homophobic comments early last year, CBC News reports. Court documents say Brandan Lukus Apple used spambots to flood Twitch's chat service and even detailed how others could do the same on his own website.
"The volume of spam messages on the attacked channel was enormous," Twitch claims. "The bots were posting an average of 34 spam messages per minute, while on some channels the rate was 600 messages per minute."
Apple is now charged with "mischief in relation to computer data." There's also a civil order restraining him from creating or selling "any robot, bot, crawler, spider, blacklisting software or other software" aimed at harming Twitch. His next court appearance is in February.
