Nintendo Switch Beats PS2's First-Year Sales Record in Japan

The Nintendo Switch has sold almost 3.3 million units in Japan this year, surpassing the PlayStation 2's first-year sales record in that country, according to Famitsu (translated by WSJ reporter Takashi Mochizuki). The Switch got a big boost during the holiday season, selling nearly 900,000 units in Japan between November 27th and December 24th. Super Mario Odyssey's launch in late October probably helped. Nintendo has sold more than 10 million consoles worldwide as of December 10th, and CEO Tatsumi Kimishima said in a recent interview he wants to sell more than 20 million units in the next fiscal year.
