'Fortnite Battle Royale,' 'PUBG' Both Reach 20 Million Milestones
The heated battle between Fortnite Battle Royale and PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds continues. Fortnite has reached 20 million players, Epic Games revealed on Twitter yesterday. The studio launched the free-to-play game mode in late September on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

Not to be outdone, PUBG creative director Brendan "PlayerUnknown" Greene tweeted today his game surpassed 20 million copies sold this weekend.

I know a lot of you are frustrated by issues w/ the game but the team is working hard to deliver a truly great Battle Royale expierence for everyone. Bear with us, change is coming!
While both numbers are very impressive, it's worth pointing out that Fortnite Battle Royale is a free game available on multiple consoles, while PUBG is a $30 PC exclusive. Its wider availability and zero cost are two possible explanations for why it's exploded in popularity in such a short amount of time.
