The Next 'Borderlands' Could Feature Elon Musk's Sentient Flamethrower
Gearbox's Randy Pitchford confirmed a new Borderlands is in development back in 2016 and possibly showed a sneak peek of it at GDC 2017. When it finally comes out, it might have a sentient flamethrower with flavor text written by SpaceX and Tesla co-founder and CEO Elon Musk, according to a Twitter exchange between the two today.
Musk announced last week he's selling a flamethrower for $500 via The Boring Company. It sounds like a joke, yet The Verge says Musk has already sold about $4 million of them. Earlier today, he even tried to sweeten the deal by adding the flamethrower is "sentient, it's safe word is 'cryptocurrency,' and it comes with a free blockchain."
Pitchford noticed the tweet, and says he's "super serious" about adding the weapon to the next Borderlands.
But wait, there’s more: the flamethrower is sentient, its safe word is “cryptocurrency” and it comes with a free blockchain— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) January 29, 2018
Of course, this could all just be a playful Twitter exchange. Take it with a grain of salt, etc. But, remember the safe word. Just in case.
