The Next 'God of War' Could Be Egyptian or Mayan
Sony's reboot of the God of War franchise dives into Norse mythology instead of Greek, but the next game in the series could focus on Egyptian or Mayan stories instead, director Cory Barlog says in the latest issue of Game Informer (via GameSpot).
"The Greek games were the Greek era of God of War," Barlog says. "Moving on, the next mythological belief system he interacts with became the Norse era of God of War. But we may end up going on to the Egyptian era and the Mayan era and so on and so forth."
Barlog adds it was an uphill battle to make the new God of War. Sony executives wanted the franchise to "sleep and rest." But, Barlog wants it to become as popular as Uncharted or Assassin's Creed.
"To me, that was important, because I really think we needed to have a much bigger audience," Barlog says. "I want this to reach a lot of people; I want this to be on the level of the Uncharteds and the Assassin's Creeds. We want to grow this franchise big time."
