Finnish Company Gamifies Rock Climbing With Augmented Reality

A Finnish company called Valo Motion is using augmented reality to turn rock wall climbing into a video game. Augmented Climbing projects interactive game graphics on a wall while people work out, then uses custom computer vision to see what the climber does, basically turning the wall into a giant touch screen. Some of the games on offer include Sparks, a maze with moving levels; Climball, a two-player ball game with cooperative and competitive modes; and Whack-a-Bat, where players, you know, smack bats around. So far, Augmented Climbing is available in climbing gyms in over 30 countries, including 10 locations in the U.S.
