Classic Sidescroller 'Asterix' Returns

French video game publisher Anuman Interactive today announced it's signed a licensing agreement with Les Éditions Albert René to create several new games in the long-running Asterix & Obelix franchise, the Flickering Myth blog reports.

Asterix began as a French comic in magazine Pilote in 1959. The series follows the adventures of a village of Gauls as they resist Roman occupation in 50 BC. The first Asterix video game was created for the Atari 2600 in 1983. Nearly 30 other titles have released in Europe since then. The latest, Asterix & Friends, came out on mobile devices in 2016.
