The 'Detective Pikachu' Movie Now Has Its Live-Action Lead
Hollywood has found the (human) star of its first-ever live-action Pokémon film Detective Pikachu, Variety reports. Sorry, guys, it's not Danny DeVito. It's The Get Down's Justice Smith. Baz Luhrmann reportedly handpicked the young actor for the Netflix musical drama. It wasn't picked up for a second season, but Smith's performance managed to land him one of the leading roles in the upcoming Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. If Detective Pikachu uses Smith's musical talents, hopefully it will be more successful than the first Pokémon theme song.
Shark Tale and Goosebumps director Rob Letterman is helming the film, Variety says. It will be distributed by Universal Pictures in the West, while long-time movie collaborator Toho will handle distribution in Japan.
