Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5
2015's Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5 is the Star Wars prequel of the Tony Hawk games in the sense that fans typically like to pretend it just didn't happen. But Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5 is real, and it was real bad. The move to online play meant it was full of other skaters, 20 at a time, all cluttering the level and getting in your way like brats in a sandpit. The new slam move was inexplicably and unchangeably mapped to the same button as the all-important grind, making for constant mistakes as you did one instead of the other. It was buggy too, with skaters glitching through objects or slowly falling over for no reason as if despair had taken them. An insult to its legacy and its fans, it not only killed off the Tony Hawk series, but it was the final nail in the coffin for an entire genre.
